　　作为致力于户外教育的一部分，本周末，常州威雅公学主办了爱丁堡公爵国际奖培训活动，来自中国各地六所学校的代表参加了此次活动，包括从成都远道而来的老师们。各校代表参加了二级培训，这项活动旨在培训老师如何支持学生参加“爱丁堡公爵国际奖”，尤其关注户外教育部分，又称为“探索之旅”。让所有学生都以安全、富有教育意义、有趣的方式参与“探索之旅”，是我们的宗旨。

　　As part of WASCZ’s commitment to Outdoor Education, this weekend, WASCZ hosted the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award China National Award Office and teachers from 6 schools around China, including from as far away as Chengdu. Delegates took part in Level 2 training. This training means the teachers know how to support pupils take part in the DofE Award, particularly the outdoor education part, called the ‘Adventurous Journey’. Adventurous journeys are undertaken by all pupils at WASCZ and conducting them in a safe, educational and fun way is central to --our ethos.

　　参与代表们一起讨论了安全事项，帮助学生记录活动的最佳方法等。老师们还讨论了该奖项的其他三个组成部分：体能锻炼，学生可以利用学校的体育设施来提高身体素质和运动技能；技能部分，例如学习语言和乐器，提高绘画与摄影技能，所有这些都可以在常州威雅公学实现；以及志愿服务部分，高年级的学生可以在空闲时间为学校社区做出贡献，例如帮助比自己年龄小的学生阅读英文书籍或参加体育运动领导者项目。

　　Delegates discussed the safety considerations, the best ways to help the pupils record their activities and much more. The teachers also discussed the other 3 components of the Award: the Physical Recreation section, where pupils improve their fitness and sports skills, using the sports facilities at school; the Skills section, such as learning a language, how to play a musical instrument, improving painting, drawing or photography skills, all of which we can do here at WASCZ; and the Voluntary Service section, where pupils in our Sixth Form make a contribution in their free time to the school community, such as helping younger pupils learn to read English books, or with the Sports Leader programme.

　　All the delegates were very impressed with the WASCZ facilities. It was our pleasure to host the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award training staff, from Shanghai and Beijing, and the teachers from the other schools, and we look forward to working with them again in the future. We hope that all those involved will help to contribute towards the development of outstanding outdoor education in China and we are very happy that WASCZ is at the forefront of this process.
